Benefits of Elderberry Syrup

Hopefully you are reading this AFTER having read the blogpost about the Benefits of Elderberries… if not, go and check it out for a deep dive into all the wonderful properties of Elderberry. In this post, I do not wish to repeat myself about elderberries, instead I want to highlight the health benefits of the OTHER ingredients that we use in Fever Hill Farmstead’s Elderberry Syrup! While our homegrown organic elderberries are definitely the biggest star in our concoction, all of the other ingredients are there for good reason, not only bringing more flavor to our syrup, but adding some of their own healing qualities as well!

LOCAL RAW HONEY: Our syrup is sweetened using delicious honey that we source from within 30 miles of our farm, collected by beekeepers that use regenerative and organic land practices where they keep their bees! Highly regarded for its potential health benefits, raw honey has been a natural remedy in many cultures worldwide for hundreds of years. It is packed with antioxidants that help protect your body from cell damage caused by free radicals, and some studies suggest that honey may help reduce inflammation. Honey is commonly used as a natural remedy for soothing sore throats and coughs and promotes healing with its antimicrobial properties. Some people believe that consuming LOCAL honey can help alleviate seasonal allergies, although scientific evidence is limited. When choosing honey, opting for RAW honey is preferred as it retains more of its natural enzymes, antioxidants, and nutrients compared to processed honey. Be aware that honey should not be given to infants under one year old due to the risk of botulism.

GINGER: A popular spice known for its unique flavor, ginger contains high levels of antioxidants that can help strengthen the immune system and protect against diseases. It contains compounds that may help reduce inflammation in the body, which can be beneficial for conditions like osteoarthritis and general inflammation, and may help improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels, which may be beneficial for people with diabetes. It’s been used for centuries to aid digestion, reducing bloating & gas, and helping with nausea. Some research suggests that ginger may also help to lower cholesterol levels to aid in heart health, and other findings indicate that ginger may have potential anti-cancer properties, though more studies are needed to confirm this. Pretty amazing for a humble little bumpy root!

CINNAMON: Renowned for it’s lovely aroma, cinnamon is an age old favorite spice to cook with, but did you know it also boasts several potential health benefits?! Cinnamon has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties that may help fight infections, and it’s high in antioxidants, which help protect the body from oxidative stress and inflammation. It has been shown to help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, and some research indicates that cinnamon may also help reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which can benefit heart health. Some studies even suggest that cinnamon may help boost the metabolism and aid in weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and exercise.

CLOVES: Yes, cloves also have several potential health benefits due to their rich content of antioxidants and beneficial compounds. Cloves may help reduce inflammation in the body due to their high concentration of antioxidants that may help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Cloves are also believed to aid in digestion and help alleviate issues like bloating and gas.

Pretty incredible the amount of health benefits a few common household spices hold, huh?? Then add to that all the ancient healing powers of the Elderberry and raw honey… our bottles are seriously bursting with natural healing goodness for you and your family!
