Who we are
Collectively, Nick, Kelly & Silas Raaum are the 2nd & 3rd generations that are stewarding the land here at Placke Organic Acres. The farm has been Certified Organic since 1996, and they wholeheartedly believe that the attention and care that is put into protecting the soil is returned exponentially in nutrient dense food and a thriving ecosystem. Kelly’s parents, Joe & Rita Placke, purchased the land in 1980 and operated as a dairy and small grain farm. In 2023, Kelly & Nick decided to transition to an intentionally smaller and more diversified operation where they focus on grass-fed meats, and medicinal foods like garlic and elderberries. Some regenerative land practices that are implemented include intensive rotational grazing, multi-species perennial cropping & constant plant cover in order to protect and build soil. Striving to shift focus to the quality of products rather than the quantity of products produced, allows us to feel more connected to the land and animals in our care, and help us to be more appreciative of the food that we consume to nourish and heal our bodies.
